Trappa’s Bar And Restaurant, English Harbor, Antigua
After the Day of Atonement ended about 6PM or so, my mother and stepfather and I had planned to go eat at the chicken restaurant that was at the end of the street, but it ended up being closed last night and so we walked a bit and ended up at Trappa’s, which offered some tasty food that was not too unreasonably priced (albeit about as expensive as last night). This particular restaurant featured some open air decor and well-printed menu boards that were moved to each table as they ordered. Service was friendly and one could tell it was a place that lots of people liked to go because of the fact that the crowd was nearly all ex pat, and I saw somewhere in the neighborhood of 25-30 fellow pale people during the course of our dinner there, which lasted about an hour. Whether one was looking at the large van taxi full of elderly European folks that pulled up as we were finishing up or the table of small children that sat outside, this place was certainly a popular way for many people to spend the evening, that’s for sure.
Concerning the food itself, this place offered a tasty blend of options for the usual $20+ price for entrees. My stepfather ordered the cajun mahi mahi, which came with two sides, and so he got onion rings and jasmine rice. My chicken curry was spicy but tasty and came with some jasmine rice (which appears to be a popular side for me so far during my travels), and my mother got a salad with a lime vinaigrette which ended up being more like a vegetable salsa and some steamed mixed vegetables. All of us enjoyed what we had to eat and the meal came with some bread and some tasty garlic butter, which was a very excellent addition to the meal. All in all, it was a good dining experience, if not what we were originally looking for.
