Restaurant Review: Pasteleria Versailles

The Pasteleria Versailles is located at a key location in the terminal of Lisbon International Airport, and as is frequently the case when I eat, location matters a great deal, even if it is not one of the factors that we tend to think about the most in our travels. At any rate, this particular bakery has been in operation since 1922, and looking at its menu, it is not hard to see why. Part of the store is a pretty straightforward bakery where one orders food that has already been prepared, as well as drinks to go with it, and the other part of the restaurant is seating that includes some comfy chairs and sprawling sofa chairs placed next to each other that make the most of the space available. Its location is not only at a key intersection of the departures terminal located near the screen where one sees one’s departure gate information but is also next to a playground within the airport, and is the last eatery for some distance along its path, giving it a prime location that it has held for more than a century and likely will want to maintain as long as the airport remains as it is.

Concerning its food, my own lunch was an enjoyable experience. The cashiers had a bit of fun chatting with their customers, and picked up trays during the course of the meal for those customers who left theirs behind. Additionally, the food itself was good. I had a sandwich with salmon, cream cheese, and lettuce on a bun which was excellent, and also a fantastic croissant along with some bottled water and a strawberry smoothie, which proved a bit hard to open. Other dining options were available, a mix of sandwiches, pastries, and drinks, which should satisfy a great many people. Considering that the restaurant stayed full while I was there and always had people eating and sitting, talking, and ordering during the hour or so I was here, it looks like the place keeps up a pretty brisk business, and deservedly so. Prices are pretty reasonable as well, if not cheap, certainly not highway robbery.
