About These Ads

One of the more popular links from this blog site for the last few days has been the following link:

So, since some of the readers of this blog are apparently curious as to why there are advertisements on my blog, I thought it might be worthwhile to give a brief note about them. I have never made any kind of money on this blog or any other one (at least not yet!), and the blog is a low-frills kind of blog that doesn’t have a lot of expensive upgrades. The only time I have ever upgraded the blog was to provide more space for media when I was uploading more content than has been the case for a few months, and so I have never paid for the service that removes advertising, this being a free blog and all.

I’m not sure what advertising that everyone else receives, but I have often found the advertising I saw to be highly ironic and often deeply humorous. For example, when I have looked at my own sites there have been an alarmingly large number of marriage and engagement advertisements, which I find more than a little ironic for several reasons, not least of which is the fact that no obvious short or even moderate-term candidate exists for that particular honor at this time or for the foreseeable future (which is to say that I do not claim that kind of foresight for myself).

Since there are some readers of this blog who are curious about these ads that sometimes appear on the blog, what I can tell you is that given the fact that I am a prolific writer whose blog takes up a great deal of space, I do not begrudge WordPress for trying to make a little bit of money off of this blog site, which has recently hit the 150k threshold of views since I started it on November 18, 2010. I would like to know, though, what kind of advertisements appear on this blog, just to make sure that everything is appropriate and in good taste, so I would appreciate your comments, as always.
