Hotel San Remo, Larnaca, Cyprus
The Hotel San Remo is precisely the sort of hotel that is going to get a mixed review from its customers depending on their expectations. This is a hotel that is a bit rough–its customer service depends wildly on the moods of its somewhat overworked staff, which has full 24 hour coverage, all the more convenient when your plans involve getting up early to travel as ours did. The rooms are spartan, the door on our room’s bathroom couldn’t close completely and the plumbing was a bit dodgy. It’s not going to win style points, and while it does offer amenities, things like limited free breakfast hours made it impossible for us to enjoy them on this trip. If you are looking for a luxury hotel, or something that meets those standards, this room isn’t going to meet them.
Still, if you approach this hotel with the desire to have an inexpensive place to stay that offers prompt calls of taxis and a place to hang your head while you go exploring the area, to see stray cats or head to the beach, this place does enough to be worth your patronage. There are certainly things that this hotel could do to improve. Some freshening up of the place, making sure that there was more ventilation in the halls, doing some basic repairs to the rooms, all of these would help a little bit. Still, when one is traveling, the most important thing to have is a friendly place to stay and I only wish that I would have been able to sleep for longer there than my schedule allowed, alas.
