Hotel Review: Hotel Kalliste

Hotel Kalliste, Ajaccio, Corsica

Hotel Kalliste is one of the relatively small hotels that one can find towards the port area of Ajaccio, as most of the larger hotels are considerably further away from the main part of the city and are towards the newer construction towards the west of the city. This particular hotel offers a great location, a maze-like structure, and a comfortable place to sleep. If it lacks in some amenities and if the staff can sometimes be absent because they monitor multiple properties, it is an enjoyable enough place to visit and stay at so long as you are willing and able to hike a bit to see what you want and eat in the restaurants nearby. The businesses of Ajaccio, at least from what I saw, tend to be specialized to an immense degree, and hotels are no different, with very segmented space for check-in apart from the housing and apart from the laundry facilities on-site as well as the other businesses that are nearby.

Whether or not you will enjoy staying here depends in large part on your fondness for somewhat spartan but enjoyable housing options. This is by no means a luxurious hotel but the staff is friendly, the place as a whole is comfortable and cozy, and it offers sleeping space and free wi-fi and somewhere to sleep after making one’s exploration of the larger town around, and that counts for a lot. This is a hotel that manages to do what a hotel needs to do and provides the right sort of location to do so in a way that is convenient for travelers coming in via the port or the airport via a taxi.
